How to make the most of your solar power
Learn how to make the most of solar power when you are at work, stuck in traffic or running errands.
Here’s how you can make the most of your solar (and it’s easier than you think).
1. Monitor your solar usage
Solar monitoring measures when you use power and when the most power is available.
AGL can provide you with an online tool to show you your solar production. If you’re thinking of getting solar, this will be provided as standard by AGL or if you already have solar you can get monitoring added to your system.
Checking your online monitoring tool will provide you with solar production and electricity consumption profiles.
2. Put your appliances on delay timers
Once you’re familiar with your monitoring system, we recommend shifting your energy requirements from the peak evening times to during the day.
Many appliances can be put on a delay timer, so you can stagger usage throughout the peak daylight hours.
3. Make time for maintenance
Pencil in some regular maintenance and cleaning to ensure your solar system is operating at its maximum potential. Supplied monitoring will eliminate the need to schedule annual cleans and services when they are not required. The online tool will identify when there is a dip in production and what will need to be done to correct this.
However, if you don’t have a monitoring system, you should try to schedule a clean once a year.
Autumn is a great time to undertake maintenance, as your system will then be in peak condition coming into the winter months when your solar production may be slightly reduced. It’s also a good time to check for overhanging tree branches that may need to be trimmed that could impede your solar production.
4. Get in the professionals
When it comes to ensuring everything is in top shape, it’s best to enlist the professionals to give everything a once-over annually. This work should be done by a professional who is solar accredited with the Clean Energy Council.
Now that you have these four handy tips, it’s time to put them to good use and get the most out of your solar.
